The Toyota FJ Cruiser is a standalone midsize SUV marketed as an off-road vehicle. It is an independent model from the Land Cruiser, although it was derived from Toyota’s best-selling FJ40-series Land Cruiser of the 1960s. Featuring a rugged, edgy, and traditional off-road utility design, the FJ Cruiser fits into a niche segment in today’s market. It was sold from the 2007 through 2014 model years in the US, where it was mildly received, and officially ended production in 2022.
Toyota already has some popular off-road-capable SUVs in the market, such as the 4Runner and the Sequoia, which makes it difficult for a more uniquely styled SUV like the FJ Cruiser to fit in. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t as good as its counterparts. The 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser features a powerful 260-hp, 4-liter V6 engine that, coupled with its strong body-on-frame construction, allows it to tow as much as 4,700 pounds. What it does lack, however, is good enough gas mileage, where it is only good for about 18 mpg. With that said, the FJ Cruiser pleases any off-road enthusiast with its 9.6-inch ground clearance clearance and options for TRD performance shocks, TRD brake kits, and 16-inch TRD FJ six-spoke silver alloy wheels.
How Far Can an FJ Cruiser Go on a Full Tank?
The 2014 FJ Cruiser is rated at 17 mpg city and 20 mpg highway, and carries a 19-gallon fuel tank. With those numbers, its expected range on a full tank is between 323 to 380 miles.
Toyota FJ Cruiser Cargo Capacity
Behind the rear seats, the FJ cruiser can accommodate up to 27.9 cubic feet of cargo. With the rear seats down, it is rated for a maximum cargo capacity of 66.8 cubic feet.
